The president of the AECEM, Martí Manent, stated at the presentation of the White Paper on Spanish E-Commerce that e-commerce will grow by 56% this year in Spain.
Manent referred to the crisis and the opportunities that merchants find on the Internet, although he said that the technological medium will not be able to stop the fall in sales despite the homeowner data fact that they have reached 10 billion compared to 6.4 billion in 2008.
E-commerce is more common among medium and large companies, as they find it easier to adopt digital trading formulas. Small companies only sell 1.6% of their products online, while medium and large companies sell 6% and 20% respectively. In turn, books, with 27%, continue to be one of the star categories, thanks to their wide online offering, ease of use and convenience for online shopping, as are all technological products: from computer products and image and sound products, both with 25%; to mobile phones, PDAs and GPS, with 20%; and video games, with 18%. DVDs and CDs are neither growing nor falling (15% and 13%, respectively), while household appliances stand out, bought by 14%.
