Ranking algorithm update to favor fresh contentThe Freshness Update follows Google's assumption that people search for current developments in specific queries rather than general information on a topic.

The Freshness Update therefore favors fresh content in complete cell phone number list some subject areas, as its younger age is assumed to be more relevant. According to Google, around 35% of search queries contained at least one result boosted by the update. Larger fluctuations in the SERPS were observed in 6 to 10%.

As part of the Freshness Update, Google divides relevant content into 3 categories:

Current events such as upcoming/recent events, news or topics discussed in society
Regular events such as world championships or conferences
Fast-moving topics such as mobile devices (mobile phone, tablet) or Star News
