The mobile phone has changed a lot since it first appeared in our lives, thanks to advances in innovation and technology. Last year, our colleagues at Showroomprive , an online channel specialising in fashion and accessories, carried out a study on the behaviour of the Spanish population with smartphones and apps.
How many times do you look at your phone?
44.30% of the Spanish population responded that they only look at their smartphone every time they receive a message or alert. 34.23% responded that they use it every hour or even more frequently. And the remaining 12.75% said that they look at the screen of their smartphone for between 10-15 minutes.

How do you spend your time on your smartphone?

Only 17.58% of the population surveyed said they use their smartphone to answer phone calls, as opposed to 12.89% who use it to watch videos and series, and 4.16% to make online purchases.

What are fashion apps used for?
31.68% of respondents use the saying “search, compare and if you find something better, buy it”, while 24.70% use them for their main purpose: buying clothes. Nearly 20% of respondents use them to find out about the latest fashion trends and nearly 12% to sell clothes.

When are purchases made?
41.34% of the population surveyed say they do their shopping in the late afternoon, however, 32.75% of the population confess that it makes no difference to them. 9.13% prefer to use the morning hours and 8.46% make their purchases after receiving an email about the brand in question. Finally, 8.32% say they do their shopping when they are bored.

In summer, online purchases via smartphone increase by up to 38%.
Peak hours of activity in summer: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., secondly 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and thirdly from 10:00 p.m.

The presence of smartphones in our daily lives has become almost an indispensable factor. Therefore, adapting those brands that have objectives in online commerce to a good responsive design seems more like an obligation to adapt to this type of device.
