Third tip for your program

Post by jrineakter »

important: don't keep your program only in your head. Try to use technology. Try to put reminders in your phone or post-its on your desk or in the places that you frequent the most, but make your program visible. You can create a nice schedule that you put on the wall, you can write little notes in your diary at work, it doesn't matter, really. The idea is to have reminders and to establish the habit of practicing according to your schedule, according to your program.

To build a habit, you need to have a trigger. I've talked about this in other content. The trigger is something that you already do every day preferably and that you will use as a reminder to practice French. For example, the trigger could be, I get on the bus or I get on the subway or I get in my car. That's a trigger. And, the action of triggering, the habit put in place, is to listen to a podcast in French or to follow a module of the Academy or really any type of content that you want, but you have a trigger and this trigger leads to an action that allows you to respect your daily schedule.

If you don't use these triggers, these reminders, these tools, these post-its, these calendars etc. whatever you choose to take, if you don't do that, the program will be in your head and you iraq whatsapp number data will forget about it, because we all have a lot of things to think about every day.

make sure to vary it. If you love grammar, that's great, but if you only study grammar, you're not going to really improve your speaking. Of course, you need to consume lots of authentic content, read newspapers, books, listen to podcasts, watch videos, and immerse yourself in content produced by native speakers.

The opposite is also true. If you just listen to authentic content all the time but don't take the time to solve certain conjugation or grammar questions that you may have, you won't progress quickly enough. The idea is to vary and balance to ensure that you progress in all areas. That's why the program is important. You know that I always recommend consuming a lot of authentic content, but sometimes spending 10 minutes watching a grammar video or spending 5 minutes doing a quiz, one of the Friday quizzes from Français Authentique, can unlock a problem that would have taken you months to really solve.

Fourth tip: don't forget to enjoy yourself. If your program is based only on effort, motivation, and willpower, eventually, you're going to give up. We're not made to do things only out of necessity. One day or another, our brain will tell us: "No, that's what you've been suffering for years or months because of. Let's stop. It's over." So, you have to integrate the notion of pleasure and the desire to learn into your program.
