So originally, in the Middle Ages, shoemakers were too busy repairing their customers' shoes that they neglected their own needs, therefore their own shoes. So the cliché of the shoemaker who doesn't have time to take care of himself was already known at the time.

Even Montaigne helped spread it with this passage in the Essays : When we see a man with bad shoes, we say that it is no wonder if he is a hosier. So here, the expression means that the work is done with more care for others than for oneself. It means that we are capable of solving the problems of others, but we do not know how to apply our skills for ourselves. So we take care of others, but we do not have time for ourselves. We tend to neglect our own needs, like the shoemaker, therefore the craftsman who repairs shoes, who repairs the shoes of his customers, but who forgets his own.

As usual, I'm going to give you three examples, three different contexts,

First example: "Melanie is a blog writer, but kuwait whatsapp number data she can't write her presentation for her LinkedIn profile. That's because shoemakers always wear the worst shoes." Here, we're talking about a writer who writes on a blog, who is very good at her job but who, in the end, can't even write her own LinkedIn profile, who can't even find the time to write for herself.

Second example: "His father is a chef, but he often orders fast food to be delivered to his home because he doesn't have time to cook. As they say, the shoemaker's shoes are always the worst shod." Here, we are talking about a cook who is normally able to cook and able to cook, but who often orders meals out because he doesn't have time to cook. So this is a chef who cooks all day for his customers but who, once home, doesn't take the time to cook for himself and his family and who orders food out. So here, we really see that the person is not applying his skills for himself.

Third example: "Elie is an accountant, but she has trouble paying her own bills, which just goes to show that shoemakers are always the worst shod." Here, we're talking about an accountant who can't manage and pay her own bills. So she's very good at her job, she's an accountant, and yet, at home, she can't apply her skills and manage her own bills.
