According to Upadhyaya, SD-WAN discovers IIoT devices and segments them, and blocks application traffic if a threat is detected. He says many IIoT devices do not have advanced security. With east-west segmentation, SD-WAN allows the IIoT network to determine which applications a particular IIoT device can interact with. SD-WAN can enforce security policies and allow IIoT devices to download or upload software.
SD-WAN works in conjunction with Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solutions to secure IIoT networks.
“SASE supports secure access scenarios for branch offices, remote workers, and on-premises networks,” says Forest. “SASE is delivered primarily as a service and provides zero-trust access based on device or argentina mobile database identity combined with real-time context and security and compliance policies.”
Using SD-WAN as part of a SASE solution enables IIoT networks to inspect for malware, segment IIoT traffic, and perform virtual patching, which can prevent network attacks using zero-day vulnerabilities, according to Dave Greenfield, director of technology evangelism at Cato.
He notes that in addition to ensuring security, pairing SD-WAN with SASE allows for optimization of cloud applications.
“SD-WAN, when paired with SASE architecture, provides efficient traffic management based on quality of service requirements and security policies. This ensures direct and secure access to the cloud while maintaining bandwidth efficiency,” says Greenfield.
