High price of road transportation
The deadline has passed, but that hasn't stopped people like Elon Musk from keeping the dream of self-driving cars alive and continuing to ignore the negative consequences of a transportation system based on the experience of driving a personal car: tens of thousands of deaths each year in the US alone, an obesity epidemic, and a loneliness crisis caused in part by many people living on the outskirts of cities far from friends, family, and places where they could meet.
Technology companies promise that self-driving cars will solve many taiwan number data transportation problems: they will eliminate the need for parking lots and personal car ownership, and they will also reduce traffic jams. However, one must be realistic about the situation. The claim that self-driving cars will be cheaper to use has proven dubious, and even if they do lose some of their value, they still won’t be free. This means that people who are experiencing mobility problems now will continue to face them in the future.
Reducing parking will only exacerbate congestion as vehicles without passengers will drive around until they are called. Drones will only solidify our sprawling suburban landscapes and entrench the associated health crisis, as well as increase the cost of living in low-density areas.
And what will these vehicles be powered by? We don’t seem to think about it at all. If , they will not emit exhaust gases, but that doesn’t mean they will be environmentally friendly. In fact, the electric car revolution will simply replace fossil fuel extraction with the extraction of metals and minerals, which will lead to a surge in related activities in Asia, Africa and South America, which will negatively affect local communities, the environment and the lives of workers. For example, the huge reserves of lithium played a significant role in the recent coup in Bolivia.
They run on electricity, as corporations promise
