Over a thousand trucks stuck in queue at Russia-Georgia border


About 400 trucks from Armenia have accumulated at the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint in North Ossetia on the Russian-Georgian border, Sputnik Armenia reports. In total, 1,325 trucks from various countries are in line. Earlier, traffic for trucks with trailers was temporarily closed for several hours.

The Georgian Military Highway is the only land route connecting Russia with Georgia and Armenia. The route runs from Vladikavkaz to Tbilisi via the Verkhniy Lars border checkpoint. In winter, traffic on the road is often suspended due to snowfalls and the threat of avalanches.

On January 12, three buses fell into a ditch on the way from Tallinn to the Narva-Ivangorod checkpoint on the Estonian-Russian border. The cause of the accident was heavy snowfall. The buses tilted and partially ended up in snowdrifts.

Earlier, Estonian Interior Minister Lauri Läänemets said business owner database closing the border with Russia would not solve the security problem. According to him, such a measure would have an impact on local residents of Narva and the southern part of the country.

The UK's promised assistance to Ukraine in developing long-range weapons and creating military infrastructure is seen as a direct threat to Russia. This was stated by the Russian Embassy in London, RIA Novosti reports.


The diplomats responded to the visit of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Kyiv and the signing of a 100-year partnership agreement by the countries. The document is intended to deepen bilateral relations between the countries in the defense sphere and ensure further military assistance to Ukraine.
