At that time, some really cool WordPress plugins were developed that built powerful eCommerce platforms on top of WordPress. This allowed WordPress users to create online stores and build powerful eCommerce websites using WordPress.

In 2012, the Theme Customizer, Theme Preview and the new Media Manager were introduced. These features helped new users tremendously in creating image galleries and previewing themes before switching to a new theme.

In 2013, WordPress 3.7 came with the new automatic updates feature, which allows WordPress to automatically update your website's software for minor releases. The automatic updates feature is very similar to the Google Chrome browser. Some users didn't like the feature, so we wrote a guide on how to disable automatic updates .

By this time, WordPress had already become the most popular CMS in the world.

Users can now edit images directly in the editor and see their gallery previews in the editor. WordPress 3.9 also introduced live widget previews, audio playlists, and various other improvements.


Throughout the year, further improvements were made to the WordPress core with the subsequent versions WordPress 4.0 and WordPress 4.1 .

2014 was also the first year that non-English downloads for WordPress exceeded English downloads.

In 2015, WordPress 4.2 , 4.3 and 4.4 were released. These versions focused on improved localization, emoji support, theme customization and creating infrastructure for the WordPress REST API.
