Basics of Table Setting in the Catering Industry
A table can be set in different ways. How exactly depends on the occasion and the meal. Breakfast, coffee, dinner, buffet and à la carte are set differently. And whether you offer a 3- or 5-course menu also influences how the table is set.

No matter how exactly you set your tables, some hygiene rules always apply:

Carry cutlery in a hand napkin or on your plate.
Only touch the handles of the cutlery. Ideally, wear gloves.
When setting the table, always look at the bigger picture and take a look at the room. Are all the tables in the right place? Move the tables around before you start setting the table. The room climate also plays an important role in ensuring that guests feel completely comfortable. So check whether the temperature is right, all the lights are working and it smells pleasant.

Tablecloths & Decoration
The choice of tablecloths influences the entire appearance of your restaurant. You are spoiled for choice: classic white tablecloths or colored ones? Firstly, the tablecloths should of course match your restaurant and your style. Secondly, there are very practical aspects to consider. The tablecloths should be able to be washed with as much hot water as possible . This makes stains easier to remove. White tablecloths have the advantage that stubborn stains can be bleached out. This is not always possible with colored tablecloths.

Place a molleton pad under the tablecloth. This will dampen the noise when you put down the glasses. Then comes the tablecloth. It should have an overhang of 20 to 30 cm on each side , and the folds should be aligned in the middle. The chairs must slide easily under the tablecloth. Centerpieces are particularly elegant. These are placed diagonally over the tablecloth. The corners of the centerpiece should not be longer than the tablecloth.
