However, on occasions where being in the office might prove useful, such as brainstorming or strategic meetings, commuting may become necessary. So what can companies do to mitigate the impact of commuting costs in 2024?
One option is to subsidise or cover some of the travel costs incurred by employees. We found that most employees cover some of the costs of travelling to and from work themselves, such as public transport and petrol. Parking fees are more often covered by companies and are therefore not such a burden. A significant number of our respondents would like employers to cover travel costs, even if they only share the cost burden.
