Chapter 1: What is the Metaverse?

Post by Rina7RS »

You’ll find many of the same items in the offices of tech company CEOs. However, the oldest one might be a copy of Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash, which first described and essentially coined the terms “Metaverse” and “Avatar.”

ImageThe most common concept of the metaverse originates from science fiction. Here, the metaverse is often portrayed as a digital "embedded" internet - a representation of reality, but one based on virtual worlds, such as those depicted in Ready Player One and The Matrix. While these experiences are likely an aspect of the metaverse, just as films such as Tron portray the internet as a literal digital "information superhighway" made up of bits.

Just as it was hard to imagine in 1982 what the Internet would netherlands mobile database look like in 2020 — and even harder to convey to someone who had never even “logged on” to it at the time — we don’t really know how to describe the Metaverse. We can, however, identify core properties.

We believe that the Metaverse will:

Continuously running: that is, it never "resets" or "pauses" or "ends", it just continues indefinitely.

Synchronous and real-time: The Metaverse will be a real-time, ongoing experience that exists for everyone.

There is no limit on concurrent users, while also providing each user with a personal sense of “presence” : everyone can be part of the Metaverse and participate in a specific eventplaceactivity together at the same time.

Become a fully functional economy : individuals and businesses will be able to create, own, invest, sell and earn rewards for a broad range of “work” that produces “value” recognized by others.

Spanning: digital and physical worlds, private and public networks, and experiences across open and closed platforms.
