"Everyone has heard of armenia whatsapp number databa se encryption programs, they are one of the biggest headaches for businesses. However, the growth in the number of attacks with them was 8% year-on-year," said Igor Kuznetsov. "In the last two years, attackers have become more advanced. Those who use encryption programs have started using zero-day attacks, which was not the case before. Usually, such attacks were used by attackers who were somehow connected with state espionage. Now encryption attackers have this arsenal. The growth in attacks with exploits year-on-year was as much as 30%."
Ransomware is a malicious program that encrypts users' files so that they cannot be opened.
An exploit is a type of malware that contains data or executable code that can take advantage of one or more vulnerabilities in software.
A zero-day attack is a cyberattack in which an attacker exploits a vulnerability in software or a system that is not yet known to the developers and for which no protection mechanisms yet exist.
Dmitry Ovchinnikov, head of the laboratory for strategic development of cybersecurity products at the Gazinformservice cybersecurity analytical center, believes that artificial intelligence (AI) is a good help in identifying ransomware.
"We believe that there is a large field for activity in terms of integrating AI into SIEM systems (a comprehensive solution for ensuring information security - ComNews note ), into various behavioral analytics modules. This way, it is possible to detect uncharacteristic user activity and increase overall cyber resilience. There is a possibility that it will be possible to respond to zero-day attacks in the same way," says Dmitry Ovchinnikov.
What other cyber attacks were there?
Igor Kuznetsov also said that only 56% of Russian users have encountered a cyberattack. The most common of these are attacks using spyware. The number of users attacked by them has grown by 13% year-on-year. Attacks using stealers - programs that steal passwords and data from computers - have grown by 14%. The number of mobile attacks has more than doubled - by 53%.
Business statistics are slightly different. The number of users attacked with stealers has increased by 30% - much more than other attacks. The number of attacks using financial malware has increased by 26%. The growth of backdoor attacks has slowed down: in 2024, thei
