Volume: exabytes per day

“ It’s not the size that matters, but what you do with it .” Big Data is a hot topic on the marketing agenda. Companies like Google, IBM and Facebook have been able to develop successful business strategies by using data correctly. However, the ‘correct use’ of data is still a challenge for most organizations.
Big data as a concept is, to me, nothing more than old wine in new bottles. The ' big question ' is what organizations can actually do with all that collected data. On April 24, the Big Data Driven Decisions Event took place at Nyenrode, where heavyweights shared their expertise and insights.
First, a brief discussion of the concept of big data. There is no clear definition france mobile phone number list available, but according to research agency Gartner, it involves at least three factors: the amount of data (volume), the speed at which the data is received and requested (velocity) and the diversity of the data (variety).
With this explanation of the definition I immediately tie in with the presentation of Sander Duivestein , trend watcher New Media at ViNT (Exploration Institute New Technology), the research institute of Sogeti. In his presentation the three V's of big data are discussed extensively.
In 2012, 2.5 exabytes of data were created every day, and the amount of data doubles every 40 months. There is currently more data on the Internet every second than was created in an entire year 20 years ago. Traditional analysis tools are no longer sufficient to process these amounts of data.
Velocity: speed
It is not only the amount of data that distinguishes big data from traditional analytics, but especially the speed at which this data is received and can be retrieved.
