car2go is consistently preparing for the future of carsharing with autonomous vehicles and fully electric fleets in cities. The global market leader for flexible carsharing fleets has published an analysis in the context of the Web Summit in Lisbon – the world’s largest technology conference – outlining the five main requirements for controlling autonomous vehicle fleets in the future.
“Hardly any other mobility sector can prepare itself as comprehensively for the new era of autonomous vehicles as the flexible carsharing fleet sector,” says Thomas Beermann, CEO of car2go Europe GmbH. “If you want to optimally control autonomous vehicle fleets, you have to manage the vehicles just like the software – that is, via machine learning algorithms, big data and apps – which we already do today.”
Today, car2go operates fleets of 14,000 vehicles in 26 cities . The company is therefore not only gathering valuable experience for fleet management alone, but also for developing intelligent algorithms for strategically allocating vehicles based on demand. An important prerequisite for this is demand prediction, i.e. the prediction of when and where a vehicle will be needed in the short term.
According to the analysis, “demand prediction is an important part of controlling taiwan phone number autonomous vehicle fleets.” “However, the cornerstone will be what is known as fleet intelligence.” This method will allow it to be determined which vehicle should meet each specific demand. These control algorithms are extremely complex, since the use of each vehicle has consequences for the rest of the vehicles in the fleet.
“For carsharing, the use of autonomous vehicles will be as big a step forward as the free-floating approach instead of stationary carsharing,” says Beermann. “We are looking forward to this future, for which we are already at the starting line.”
