Immediately after Donald Trump was elected as the new US president, talk began about when he would meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The reason for this was Trump’s statements during the election campaign – in which he repeatedly promised to put an end to the armed conflict in Ukraine and to this end to establish contact with the Russian leader. However, two months after the US presidential election, a bilateral meeting between the two presidents has not yet taken shape.

Three days later, at a public event, Trump said he was looking forward to meeting with Putin and that the Russian president wanted the same.
