The report also predicts further development of AI tools offered as a paid service to help attackers conduct their attacks more efficiently and at a lower cost.
However, direct use of malicious AI or LLM would not be necessary: using generative AI to create content, such as a bill reminder, is not malicious in itself, but such content can be used by attackers for their own purposes. For example, there are known cases of fraudsters using AI to impersonate needy family members or friends in order to trick them into giving them money.
Another potential threat of generative AI is related to information operations. Simply using AI cues, attackers can use the models to create fake news, fake phone calls, fake photos and videos.
According to the report, these operations could enter the cyprus mobile database news cycle. And if they were to scale, they could reduce the public's trust in news and online information, to the point where everyone becomes more skeptical or distrusts the news they consume.
“This could make it increasingly difficult for businesses and governments to engage with their audiences in the near future,” the report said.
If attackers are using AI to enhance their attacks, cyberdefenders can also use the technology to create more sophisticated countermeasures.
“AI already provides tremendous benefits to our cyber defenders, enabling them to improve capabilities, reduce effort, and better protect against threats,” said Phil Venables, CISO, Google Cloud on AI. “We expect these capabilities and benefits to grow in 2024 as defenders become more proficient with the technology and, therefore, direct its evolution to specific use cases.”
Some use cases for generative AI in security include using it to synthesize large amounts of data, generate actionable detections, and take action at a faster rate.
