Generation F is different
According to Twenge, a completely new aspect of Generation F is the great desire of young people for safety. Where teenagers in previous generations experimented and took risks, current teenagers try to avoid risks as much as possible. According to the research presented by Twenge, Generation F-ers see many activities as risky: drinking alcohol, driving, fighting and having sex. As a result, fewer young people engage in these (in their eyes) dangerous activities – and if they do engage in them, they start later. Marijuana is used just as much by Generation F-ers as in previous generations, but only because marijuana is seen as safe.

The safety that teenagers strive for is not only physical, but also emotional. And that is new according to Twenge. Emotional safety means that words can be experienced as very hurtful. This includes not only insults and threats, but also dissenting opinions and emotional topics such as sexual violence. As a result, every form of contact represents a potential threat to young people. In response, young people demand protection against emotional insecurity in the form of:

safe spaces (a place where everyone has malaysia phone number list the right not to hear a dissenting opinion)
trigger warnings (an announcement that an emotional topic is about to be discussed)
disinviting (cancelling appearances of controversial speakers)
sanitizing (filtering out controversial facts from the curriculum)
take action against microaggressions (verbal aggression in the form of, for example, discrimination or hate speech ).
Because of their mental vulnerability, Generation F is also called Generation Snowflake .

According to Twenge, many Generation F-ers strive for a secure job with a high salary, a car and vacations. Shopping and smaller possessions interest them much less, as does an interesting job with nice colleagues. Although they prefer not to work too hard, they understand that they have to plan their future and get to work. They are therefore very practical and instrumental.
