The law automatically gives the author exclusive rights to his font without any additional actions. If someone decides to use it without permission, the author can go to court and demand compensation. Firstly , the code is subject to copyright, i.e. it is protected by default. If you can prove your authorship, the law will be on your side if someone starts using the programs you created without a license.
