Replatforming comes in many different forms and is based on the lift-and-shift concept. The term rehosting is also often used for this. A distinction is made here between solutions with and without recompilation. With compiler-based solutions, a recompile is carried out during replatforming and the application is migrated to a Java Virtual Machine (JVM). With the solution without recompile, applications, runtime environments and data are migrated 1:1 by machine. The EBCDIC mainframe format is retained.
